RADical Ducati – RAD01 749/999

This kit for the 749/999 comes from the masterminds over at RADical Ducati from Madrid, Spain and Type U from Barcelona, Spain. Radical Ducati is the premier Ducati aftermarket supplier and their one of a kind Ducati based specials have been recognized internationally and have been published in a wide range of books and magazines in many countries. RADical Ducati employed Type U to completely redesign the body styling of the 749/999, to reflect the raw emotional appeal of the great Ducati’s of the past, most notably the 916. Type U Motorcycle Design was founded by Michael Uhlarik, award-winning former senior designer for Yamaha (MT-03, TZR, 2003 M1), and they provided complete design services from concept sketching to full size 3D and computer modeling.

The RAD Project 01, is RADical Ducati’s response to the disappointing Ducati 749/999 styling; the model that succeeded the fabulous Ducati 916. The Ducati 916 represented perfection in functionality, form, and in the tradition of Ducati’s technological leadership in design, which was ahead of its time. According to many critics, the 916′s successor was impersonal, bland, boring, with no added excitement, and thus it was a great disappointment. Since the advent of the Ducati 749/999, RADical Ducati began toying with the idea of “changing the design of the bike.” Although they did not have the potential of a “big factory”, with their resources and means, they began the project to RADicalize the aesthetics and functionality of the 749/999.

The key points that RADical Ducati wanted to change with this kit were the autonomy, the fact that the bike exuded a lot of heat at the rear, the side fairings that trapped heat and felt cumbersome and the front of the bike that did not cover. The goal of this project was to make a body kit that could easily switch with the original; thus the anchors of the tank, seat and bodywork should attach to the chassis through its original mounting points. Also the gas tank should have a 5-6l larger capacity over the factory standard and the airbox inlet pipes should be larger to let the bike breathe better.

From the mechanical point of view, this bike is a standard 749R with a revised induction/exhaust system, CPU and EVR slipper clutch. The RAD01 complete kit that is available in fiberglass or carbon fiber mounts directly to any 749/999 using existing frame mounting points, and requires no modifications to your stock bike. The RAD01 is aimed at the customer that owns a Ducati 749 or 999 and is looking to upgrade their machine into something more exotic and functional, using conventional tools in under one hour.
